Chevrolet will be the new shirt sponsor. Massive amount of money involved. United's submission filed with the SEC reads as follows:

Only July 26, 2012, consistent with our strategy to grow our global sponsorship revenue, we entered into an agreement with General Motors for Chevrolet to become our exclusive shirt sponsor, beginning in our 2014/15 season. The term of the agreement runs through the end of the 2020/21 season. Annual revenue from our new shirt sponsorship agreement will be $70.0 million in the first season, and will increase by an additional 2.1% in each season thereafter through the term of the agreement. We will also receive approximately $18.6 million in fees in each of the 2012/13 season and 2013/14 season under the terms of our new shirt sponsorship agreement. Total revenue payable through the end of the 2020/21 season under our new shirt sponsorship agreement is approximately $559 million

At current exchange rates, that's around £360m in total, just over £50m/year.

Nike deal as shirt manufacturer up for renewal soon. Could be an interesting bidding war for that one with Adidas dropping Liverpool and a couple of others.

We fought in the Sun and we fought in the Rain,
We took the Kop and Chelsea too,
But what we like most is kicking a blue,
Kicking a blue, kicking a blue,

It's true. You can't file false submissions like that to the SEC

The man who is understood to have negotiated the deal, General Motors chief marketing officer Joel Ewanick, left the company soon afterwards - and insiders say it was because he was censured over the terms he agreed for the deal.
A General Motors spokesman said Ewanick "failed to meet the expectations the company has for its employees".

Does that mean the deal will fall through or is it a matter of once signed its done? Some mega money involved and the $100m activation fee sounds interesting.

GM have an advertising budget of over four billion a year. Getting a manufacturers badge on shirts across the globe will be a better move for them than the US execs think. But no, the Glazers will have made sure it will cost them a lot to withdraw. It may be the manner he went about it rather than what he did.
