Cesc Fàbregas: "Under Pep I never really got the system"

Cesc Fàbregas confessed that he never really gelled in Barcelona last season and hopes he'll be freed up by Vilanova: "Tito has known me since I was a little kid. We met when I was 13. Under Guardiola I never really got to grips with the system".

"I had been playing another style of football and to take on board so much so quickly was difficult, because everyone else had already got it down. Playing in central midfield was hard for me because I need more mobility and I'm not quick off the mark in the first few metres".

Fàbregas explained that he wasn´t making any demands: "I'm not asking for anything, but that's my way of playing. It's true I'm a bit anarchic, but that's my style. Some people commented that I lacked something last season, including Guardiola. It was my fault really because I tried to be what I am not; I'm not Xavi, Iniesta, or Thiago".

"I am me and I need mobility, to participate more. Now I need to get back to my best and I'm sure this year things will go better. Nevertheless, I'm satisfied with my performance last season".

So what does he mean?? Someone help me interpret what he's saying. First, he says he didn't understand Guardiola's system. Well, that's true, it's too difficult to understand. Then he says that playing on the central midfield was hard for him because he needs more mobility... I thought CMF was his main position (although he barely played there with Guardiola...) so I don't know what he's talking about. With Guardiola, he was playing out of position (CF and sometimes as a winger), so why is he complaining about playing as CMF??

Is a strange statement in that regard, I make that he wanted a more free advanced role like he had in his later Arsenal years than to be playing as a more central midfield but if he wasn't played in the midfield then that isn't valid really.. Also that he didn't learn the Guardiola way as quickly as he wanted to because everyone else was already so used to it. It is a bit confusing though, Perhaps he thinks he's a striker now after the Euros and he has completely forgotten he was a midfielder who knows.

I think it's been tinkered a bit in the translation. Because as SD said he wasn't really playing in CM that often, but more as a forward, so his statement doesn't really make sense.

Ah so basically when its says CM replace with Forward.. I have seen this kind of problem before with Kagawa

Kagawa eyes central midfield role at Manchester United

"I want to play [in the hole], I feel that's where I play my best football.

Fail

Okay, I read the spanish version and I just saw the "mistake" with the translation. The spanish version says what would be a "wide midfielder" and/or a winger and NOT a CENTRAL midfielder... so he's complaining about what I and others have been saying the whole time. He was playing out of position the whole time. What I still don't understand is what he says he's not "Xavi". Well, maybe he's more offensive than Xavi but he's still a CMF... Anyways, I hope Tito fixes the wrong things Guardiola made.

Pictures will show what position he really means:

And in this one, the one where it says "INTERIOR"

Vilanova: "Cesc last season? At the start, we played more 3-4-3 which gave him more freedom. We'll try to make him feel comfortable."
