  2. Video Assistant Referee (VAR)

Not really VAR related since it's not used in Europa League but a couple of offside decisions that are cause for debate. Astana v Sporting. This goal was allowed to stand. Do you agree? https://streamable.com/4asjp RB Leipzig v Napoli. This was flagged for offside but people are saying that IFAB laws should have allowed for play to continue. Many feel it's ridiculous that the IFAB allow for this type of scenario to be onside. https://streamable.com/txogl
  3. Last 16 - Chelsea vs Barcelona

In 2009 Messi assisted Iniesta. In 2018 Iniesta returned the favor.
  4. Bundesliga 17/18

Ten minutes into his debut with RB Leipzig, substitute Ademola Lookman scored the only goal in the 89th minute in his team's 1:0 win away to M'gladbach. It marked the first goal by an English player in the Bundesliga since Owen Hargreaves on the 5 August 2005, 4565 days ago.
  5. Argentina Primera Division

Hope you don't mind the bump. Not from the Primera División but rather the second division Primera B Nacional between Instituto Córdoba (in white) and Villa Dálmine (wearing purple). Very interesting scenario that has created lots of debate. 1-1 deep into injury time. The fourth official had indicated four minutes of stoppage time, which is traditionally the minimum amount to play. But the referee may allow for further added time at his discretion. Thus the controversy on whether the referee (Julio Barraza) should have allowed Villa Dálmine to continue their counter attack which likely would have ended up as a 1v1/attacker v goalkeeper situation. The general feeling is that the referee was in a no-win situation either way.

    Semifinal draw: Barcelona v Valencia (Feb 1 / Feb 8) Leganés v Seviila (Jan 31 / Feb 7)

  8. Copa del Rey 2017-18

Real Madrid OUT of the Copa del Rey! Will Zidane survive the season?
  9. Copa del Rey 2017-18

Quarterfinals. Real Madrid are down 2-1 at the Bernabeu to Leganés. Real won the first leg 1-0, so 2-2 on aggregate but Leganés lead on away goals. 30 minutes still to play. In the other ties, Sevilla knocked out Atletico Madrid 5-1 on aggregate (2-1 away, 3-1 at home). Alavés and Valencia each won their home tie 2-1, Los Che advancing 3-2 on penalties. Barcelona hosts Espanyol on Thursday, Espanyol up 1-0 from the first leg.
  10. FC BARCELONA

In Copa del Rey Messi has missed six of nine penalties. Overall he's missed 21 of 86 penalties he's taken for Barcelona (24%), including three of six this season. As for shirt numbers, the number 7 shirt that was recently left vacant by Arda Turan's loan move to Basaksehir is supposedly being 'saved' for the summer when Barcelona will (apparently) make a move for Antoine Griezmann, whose contract with Atletico ends in 2020.
  11. UEFA Nations League

I agree with the "something to play for" argument but, from another point of view, this also means the window is smaller (if one exists at all) for South American / Asian / African / North American teams to play European teams outside of the World Cup. (And vice-versa)
  12. European Transfers

Barcelona's Rafinha loaned to Inter. Very well liked by his teammates who gathered to wish him well. Mascherano also set to leave at his request, wants more playing time in the run up to the World Cup. He'll be off to China and Hebei Fortune. (Coutinho will take over the #14 shirt)
