Kenny Dalglish has become an unlikely ally of Chelsea after he condemned UEFA’s decision to stage the Champions League final in Munich.

The Liverpool manager believes UEFA have made a mockery of their principle of fair play, as well as handing Bayern Munich a huge advantage ahead of the showdown with Chelsea at their own stadium, the Allianz Arena, on May 19.

Dalglish was part of the Liverpool side which defeated Roma in the 1984 European Cup final at the Stadio Olimpico — the Italians’ home ground.

This will be only the fourth time in the competition’s 56-year history that a team will contest the biggest game in club football on home soil, but Dalglish insists UEFA have failed to heed any lessons.

‘I don’t think they should book the venue of a team representing their country in the European Cup,’ he said.

Dalglish, who called the decision to play in Rome 28 years ago ‘a disgrace’ in his memoirs, added: ‘It’s totally unfair. It is a huge advantage for Bayern Munich. But whether the advantage weighs for or against them remains to be seen. It could work against Bayern if the occasion gets too much for them.

‘That’s what happened to one or two of the Roma players in 1984, but we weren’t intimidated.’

Liverpool play Chelsea twice before Roberto Di Matteo’s side tackle Bayern, most notably in the FA Cup final on May 5. Dalglish is unsure what bearing Chelsea’s achievement will have on the outcome at Wembley.

‘I don’t know how it’s going to affect them,’ he said. ‘I just think it was a fantastic achievement, their performances in both games were fantastic.’

Meanwhile, Liverpool are set to feature in a six-part reality TV series.

US broadcasters FOX Soccer will film the documentary of behind-the-scenes events entitled Our Liverpool: Never Walk Alone.

Norwich are the only English team to have beaten Bayern on their own ground, but it wasn’t the Allianz Arena. Jeremy Goss and Mark Bowen fired the Canaries to a 2-1 win in the UEFA Cup in 1993, back when the Germans played in the Olympic Stadium.

Don't they pick the venue before the tournament starts?

They do. I think not so long after the last CL final at Wembley they announced that CL final in 2013 will be at Wembley again so they had to announced the stadium for 2012 CL final long time ago.

Then I don't see the issue.. unless UEFA IS fixed and they just knew Bayern would reach the final and they all had £1m on it at 22/1.

If he's volunteering to sort out the booking of a stadium at three weeks notice for tens of thousands of fans and suits he should put his name forward! It doesn't work.

I mean, yes it could be helpful, but it's just one of those things.

What advantage does it give to fans to know a two years in advance that the final is being played in a particular place?

Surely 90% of supporters book after the quarter-finals at the earliest?

What harm would it do to have two or three venues short listed until such time as they knew for certain that the final would be played at a neutral ground?

If it hadn't been Dalglish who said it, you'd all be lapping it up, you gang of media zombie twats.
Get yer samba on, get yer thumb out and get to the match.

I think we're all missing the big point here;

"

Haha, week one with The Hoff. Maybe Snooki will be on week 2 giving Dirk some beauty tips. Ugly cunt.

God you're a twat.

The venue is chosen long before the a single ball is kicked for the tournament it is selected for. Surely there is a lot more to a Champion's League final than "90% of supporters booking their tickets?".

Either way, Bayern only have a 17,000 ticket allocation for the final. Chelsea have close to that. The rest will be neutrals and suits. Please explain how this is an advantage? ;)

I think super fan has a stutter

Could have something to do with the mass organization of the final of the biggest club tournament in Europe and all of the logistics involved.

Then again you could probably do a better job from your front room

To say there is a lot more involved logistics wise to a Champion's league final than fans buying tickets to the game, is an understatement.

I find it a little ironic that the defence of Dalglish put forward by LFC4EVA is that we can't comment because 'King Kenny' has done it for years, has all this experience etc.

However, the people that organise these events are not afforded the same luxury. When it's 'King Kenny' criticising with none of the pre-requisite experience required to comment it is a different story.
They can sell our heroes and they can sell our grounds, but they can never sell our memories.

Who says it's going to work in their favour as an advantage? You'd imagine there will be more pressure on them, everyone will be expecting a win and a party in Munich. Will come out and hopefully underperform, and before they know it's they've lost it to Chelsea. :D

This. I like the fact we've been underdogs in this for once, seems to be making us play better aswell, than being expected to coast past everyone.
