P.S.
We noticed that you don't shit your pants and actually score goals when your team falls behind. Since you probably won't end up in the USA squad going to Brasil we would be more than willing to offer you citenzenship. No waiting period. Everything will be processed tonight. Please consider.

I wish the US hadn't come back. Honestly, would've loved to see Mexico miss out on Brazil.

Once again the federation chose the wrong guy. We can't seem to get a coach that brings that extra edge that the team lacks. We have been too predictable. The same players keep getting called and don't justify it. We need a complete clean-up in the federation, but doubt it happens.

They still might. I'll be placing a cheeky bid on New Zealand to be the one who punches their ticket to Brazil.

No disrespect to Panama but im glad Mexico made the playoffs, they have a better side and they can make a bigger impact at a world cup finals than Panama. They should beat New Zealand and make the world cup but even if they do its been a crap qualifying campaign as surely Mexico with the side that they have should be in the top 3 even if they aint as good as what they were a few years back.

Is it the same New Zealand that lost a friendly against Chivas USA, a piss poor MLS team.

Mexico City (AFP) - Mexicans never imagined being in this position: Having to shamefully say "gracias" to bitter rivals the United States for helping their football team stay in contention for next year's World Cup.

Losing 2-1 to Costa Rica on Tuesday, Mexico were flirting with disaster until Uncle Sam, who had already qualified, rode to the rescue by scoring two stoppage time goals to defeat Panama 3-2.

The US victory torpedoed Panama's dream of qualifying for the World Cup for the first time while helping Mexico finish fourth in the CONCACAF regional group and secure a two-leg playoff against Oceania champions New Zealand next month.

More than a year after Mexico celebrated winning the gold medal at the London Olympics, Mexican media berated "El Tri" while running headlines in English to express gratitude to adversaries they regularly disparage as "gringos."

"Gracias Uncle Sam," "Thank you, USA!" and "God bless America" were some of the front-page news hours after the federation US Soccer had cheekily tweeted "#YoureWelcomeMexico."

The sports daily Record published a photo montage of Manchester United forward Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez holding a US flag, with the purposely misspelled headline "WE LOVE YOU! 'AMIGOUS'" .

The Cancha sports pages said Mexico's qualifying campaign had been "one of the most shameful performances in its history" after the "broken" team played with "no courage."

But Mexico manager Victor Manuel Vucetich, brought in last month to save the team, insisted he did not have to "send any message" to US counterpart Jurgen Klinsmann, though he praised US "football ethics and professionalism."

Missing out on the World Cup in Brazil next year would be emotional and financial torment for Mexico.

The country has seen its team play in 14 of the last 19 tournaments and last missed it in 1990 because the Mexican football federation had fielded overaged players in a youth championship.

."

The sports marketing firm Dreamatch Solutions estimates that broadcasters, sponsors and other businesses stand to lose $600 million if Mexico fail to qualify.

Former Mexican president Felipe Calderon, recalling that he had met the gold medal winners last year, tweeted "What happened?"

'To cry for'

Shouts of joy were heard in Mexico City bars when the US scored, but fans were angry at their team's performance, especially since some make millions playing for wealthy European clubs.

In 10 qualifiers, Mexico won just twice and scored a paltry seven goals. Mexicans expected better after Raul Alonso Jimenez scored a memorable bicycle kick last Friday to beat Panama.

"The team is worthless. They make a lot of money and do nothing," said Angel Hernandez, 30, eating an orange at a taco stand in a market.

Across his stall, 40-year-old Ivan Pena sliced jalapeno peppers as he wondered how Mexico could have lost when all they needed was a draw to secure the fourth spot.

"It's to cry for. We barely made it," Pena said. "It's embarrassing. How can we be in the playoff when we had the opportunity to do better."

In a stand lined with children's socks for sale, Fernando Rosas said having to thank the United States "is not gratifying" since "Mexico is supposedly better than the United States in football."

Failing to qualify would be "disappointing because we are used to seeing them in the World Cup," Rosas said.

Defeating New Zealand -- who drew with then defending world champions Italy in the 2010 finals in the group stage -- will be difficult, he added, "but we hope Mexico win for their own good and for the good of all Mexicans."

Everyone wanted Mexico to make it, not Panama. The number one selling Adidas jersey in the last WC and that 600 million dollar figure should be enough evidence for SD to realize that Mexico is way above Panama.

Teso, find some dignity and stop your arrogance. Nobody here is saying Panama generates more money than Mexico so your post about that is ridiculous.

Panama deserved to pass, not you (even admitted by some of your people). Your mexican team was as shit as our team. Mexico didn't prove they are 'way above Panama'. And no, not everybody wanted Mexico to qualify. For some reason, Costa Rica defeated you. For some reason, Honduras wanted you out too... etc.

And please... if you're going to support your national team, atleast go back to your fucking country ffs!

During qualification I usually root against Mexico hoping they fail to qualify.

Yet come June I'm always glad to see them in the finals because they often do CONCACAF proud.

Trivia

Only three countries have managed to reach the Round of 16 in each one of the past five World Cups (1994-2010):

Brazil

Germany

Mexico

:o

Tough not to feel some sympathy for Panama, though. Beaten last Friday on a chilena goal five minutes from time, and conceding twice in injury time on Tuesday.

And if we add what happened during previous games - from my mind (Costa Rica scored against us at the end too on the 1st game, we couldn't beat Jamaica when they had 10 players and we were at home, etc), then we will see Panama fucked this up big time. We are the only ones to blame but those damn gringos will have my hate forever, bitches! Panama will not live this situation again who knows when...

Panama has a big history of not being able to defend results so maybe I'm used to this already :||

It's a different scenario. We're talking about national teams here. We're talking about our homeland and everything that implies. You can't be "proud of your national team" and then you're in a different country ffs! That's just contradictory.

You make no sense.

So to be able to support my national team I have to be in my country? Right..... And fuck something like school or work?

Like gooner said, why don't you support a well-known Panamanian club?

Mexico can turn it around and actually give a decent performance, just last year we were enjoying beating Neymar's Brazil team in a final. Panama has not been to a World Cup for a reason and thats because they are not ready for one. ;)

The commentators for TV Azteca were brutal towards El Tri when the USA scored those goals.

Main commentator is Christian Martinoli. Pundit is former national team player Luis "El Doctor" García (played in all four of Mexico's games at USA '94).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uelBOKvM0wI

Martinoli: "...a long ball for Saborio. Costa Rica retreats, it's now a U.S. ball, 3/4s of the pitch - Attention with the cross from the U.S. - GOAL! GOAL! GOAL! GOOOOAAAL! GOAL FROM THE UNITED STATES! WE LOVE YOU! WE LOVE YOU FOREVER AND EVER! OH, GOD BLESS AMERICA DOCTOR, THE UNITED STATES BRINGS US BACK TO QUALIFICATION! THE UNITED STATES, NOT YOU! NOT YOU WHO ARE WEARING GREEN! IT WAS THEM, NOT YOU! LET THAT BE CLEAR FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIVES! YOU HAVE DONE NOTHING FOR THE KIT! YOU HAVE NOT PUT IN THE EFFORT FOR THE TEAM! YOU HAVE NOT PLACED US IN THE PLAYOFFS! YOU DID NOT KEEP US ALIVE! IT WAS THE UNITED STATES, NOT YOU! NOT YOU AND YOUR ARROGANCE! NOT YOU AND YOU INFAMY! NOT YOU AND YOUR MORONS!"

Garcia: "This... this is beyond failure, and aside from that it's undeserving because we had no arguments for Mexico to qualify even through playoffs. The United States are playing with their reserves, and mind you, a lot of their reserve players. They went there with dignity and have showed us once again what the United States is all about, how to play the game with dignity, how they understand this sport, and Mexico's gameplay is absurd, horrendous, terrible, a bust..."

Martinoli: GOAL! GOAL FROM THE UNITED STATES! (laughter from Garcia) We're now in the play-offs! United States... so we can continue on criticizing the Mexicans, eh? So we can say the United States have surpassed us, Mr. Luz! The United States are better than us in football! The United States, without their luxury of playing their starters, are letting us live! Hopefully Vucetich puts on the pants or submits his resignation today! He's failing as a technical director as well. He's not functioning as the national team's trainer. You must wear pants and motivate the Europeans and make the call! There are no European players in this squad, not in this moment!"

@rogbennett

. @KyleBeckerman tells me Panamanian players were begging US to take it easy on the field. "I told them I got to play hard to get to Brazil"

And like the famous panamanian boxer, Roberto Duran, NO MAS!

Noooooo!!! Fucking bullshit. Miguel Herrera, club America's current coach, is going to be named our new coach Friday. I'm not pleased with this, finally club america was playing great football and they are going to take our coach away.

He will bring that extra edge that we lack. His teams score a lot of goals and defend very well.
