The League of Ireland thread

I thought there was one of these before, but anyways, here is a Dundalk goal with 36 passes involving all 10 outfield players. Admittedly the majority of these passes are a bit shit but I'm still impressed this team held on to the ball for that long

This guy could well be capable of making the move to England at some point

It's a bit unfair to compare anyone to O'Shea since he's a demi-god.

We picked up Alan Browne from Cork City in January who has broke into our first team recently and has been a bit of a revelation.

Only 18 but he played a big part in our recent batterings of Shrewsbury and Carlisle, looks an absolutely great find.

That's good to hear.

It's very easy for English sides to pick up the best Irish players for free in January. The clubs are so broke they usually only offer contracts for the length of the season, March to October, so the players can be signed for free once the season ends.

Athlone Town pick up their first point, 11 games and 1 manager sacking into the season. Wonder if they could possibly be as bad as Galway United in 2011 where they got 6 points in the entire season.

1st bit of silverware of the season goes to Sligo. They beat Dundalk 1-0 in the piece of shit All Ireland competition, the Setanta Cup.

2nd manager sacking also happened over the weekend with Derry City sacking Collins.

Now on Wednesday Liverpool are in Dublin to play Shamrock Rovers in a friendly game. No doubt it will be full of plastic Liverpool fans, it will be like an away game for Shams

This is just embarrassing. Irish United fans pay for a banner to fly over the Aviva for the Liverpool vs Shamrock Rovers friendly game.

Gerrard wasn't even there!

We're in talks to sign 18 year old Ryan Robinson from Shelbourne.

Another 2 managers sacked this week, meaning 4 out of 12 Premier League sides have now sacked their managers.

This time it's Drogheda, who were getting absolutely battered in every game, and Sligo, whose decision I just can't understand considering they won the Setanta cup this season.

Signed another Irish youngster, 16yr old Sean Whelan from Lucan United, defender I think.

Heading into the last round of games for the season. Dundalk have been top pretty much all season and look likely to stay there. Would be happy to see them win as they have been the best team and play some really attacking football. Cork on the other hand now have a reputation for just kicking teams into submission. It has been a really impressive season for them, never thought they would be in 2nd at this stage of the season.

At the bottom of the table, while they have been better in recent games, it would be a huge achievement for Athlone to avoid the automatic relegation place. The playoff spot is a bit more open between UCD, Bray and Drogheda.

Looks likely that Longford will get the automatic promotion from the first division with Shelbourne in the playoff place. My team Galway are in 3rd but have fallen off the pace a bit. Nearly at the season end and I still haven't been to a single game, need to sort that out

The skanger derby was called off 40 minutes before kick off last night because the pitch was deemed unplayable. Bohs will more than likely face a decent fine for this.

The 2nd piece of silverware for the season has gone to Dundalk who beat Shamrock Rovers 3-2 in the EA Sports Cup, which is our version of the League Cup. Shamrock Rovers are continuing on their reputation for being a bunch of cunts, by attacking a man who was at a family wake. There are also videos of a large group of their fans singing 'Free State Bastards' at people in Dundalk, which is something I really can't get my head around. I've come to the conclusion that they are all just massively retarded because it's the only thing that could excuse that.

Sligo Rovers boss, John Coleman, has returned to England and is back in charge of Accrington Stanley, something most Sligo fans seem very happy about. Sligo are now looking for their 3rd manager of the season.

Hows Phillip Lowry doing for Derry? We definitely miss him this season. His brother hasn't been anywhere near as effective although that's harsh as he's only played a handful of games and we're not playing well altogether at the minute. Phillip Lowry also took time to get into the swing of things, partly due to being played out of position, but he was a great player.

I have no idea to be honest. There are very few games I have watched this season and Derry have been in none of them.

Only paying attention to the league properly again this year since I have a team to support now. Have still only made it to one game a few weeks back.

The league season is nearly over here and it's close at the top and bottom. Just 5 games left for most of the teams.

Dundalk have led for the vast majority of the season and it would be a serious fuck up for them to drop it now. I think most people would prefer them to win the title over Cork, purely because of the type of football they play.

At the bottom of the table, Athlone have somehow clawed their way into a fight with UCD. They looked to be dead and buried early on in the season but have been doing ok recently. There is still a chance Bray will get dragged into this. There are some doubts around the club recently because of financial issues. Bottom team is relegated, 2nd from bottom goes into a play-off.

Shamrock Rovers and St Pats are fighting over the Europa League spot, the rest don't have anything to play for.

In the first division there are 4 teams still playing for promotion. Top goes up automatically. Next 2 play-off and then play the 2nd last premier division team. Only 3 rounds of games left in this

Longford won the First Division over the weekend and barring a 7 goal hammering against Wexford next week, Galway will reach the promotion play-off against Shelbourne.

In the last premier league game of the season Dundalk beat Cork to go 2 points ahead and win the league. Crazy ending.

There are only 2 other games left in the Irish calendar. The second leg of the promotion play-off takes place tonight. Galway have a 2-1 lead going into their home leg.

The other game is the FAI Cup Final between Derry City and St. Pats, which is on in Lansdowne this Sunday.
